Nuclear declaration
by Claudia Sonea
Pyongyang is both the largest and the capital city of North Korea, administrated as a Directly Governed City. It is widely known for the fact that it is on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, the U.S. Trading with the Enemy Act and the communist regime. On Wednesday, both The Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal published articles on the possible capital city’s collaboration with Syria in building a nuclear reactor that could produce plutonium that allegedly was discovered after a mysterious air strike on Syria last September. All the concerns of a plot from North Korea and Syria stirred things at Washington and rumor has it that on Thursday members of Congress will thread upon the issue and also about the North Korean declaration of nuclear programs. Most of the members are skeptical about the materialization of such a declaration that is part of the agreement the two Koreas, China, Japan, Russia and the United States signed in 2005. Officials strongly deny accepting a partial declaration, while Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Ja'afari denies the rumors of plotting with anyone. There is a strong need of funds useful to take out all nuclear facilities from Pyongyang. Yet, the North Koreans are very sensitive at this kind of subjects and there is a diplomatic policy that prevented the Congress members to make any statements regarding the issue. Don’t worry, if something goes wrong, US government will definitely spend more money on a new war than switch the attention to the crumbling economy.
