Air Companies on Strike
by Milota Sidorova
If you are planning your trip by plane, it may be more than unpleasant surprise for you. It seems that half of European air companies or better said theirs employees have called for a strike. Beginning with pilots and stewards of German Lufthansa along with rivals British Airways and five air unions are blocking united European Sky control. They suggest the proclaimed modernization is a direct threat to their jobs. Most of the companies also announced they were going to revaluate their staff conditions. Literally, in Lufthansa's case the major part of the pilots would be sent to filial companies with significant wage drop. It would also mean reducing numbers of stewards on ! long distance flights. Lufthansa's employees begun the strike on Monday. According to plan it was supposed to last four days. But it was scratched the very next morning. The company representatives called employees back to the round table to carry on the dialogue. British Airways, however agreed on strike that day. More than 80 percent of employees agreed it would be the best solution how to attract the attention. And it seems to be working. Paris remains now the island in the large ocean. Between one fourth and half of the flights in major Paris airports Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle has been canceled. It is certainly not good perspective with upcoming spring holidays. Both companies also promised another steps would not affect the traffic during Easter. So if you are traveling somewhere by plane, these days are just perfect to rethink the value of pilots, stewards, technicians and all staff that is caring for your safe and unusually quick journey.Or maybe, you can take ! a train instead.
