Where is the real truth?
by Barbora Misakova

How can we recognize the truth? Sometimes even the most high-tech machines such as lie detector cannot surely say if what is saying is true or not. But we are counting upon it anyway. Although belief that human eyes never lie is not convincing or provable, it doesn’t mean that some of us don’t take eyes language as prove of guilt or innocence. All this connected with human tendency to believe the “easiest” truth usually leads to false accusation and self misleading. Najibullah Zazi who is a legal US resident has pleaded guilty at a federal court in New York. He confessed attempt to blow up New York City’s subway system. As he added he wanted pr! otest against the war in Afghanistan. 25-year-old Zazi took the rap for conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction, conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country, and providing material support to the Al-Qaeda Islamist network. The whole operation was planned on September 14, 15 or 16, 2009 just after the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Before his confession he had claimed to be innocent, but when he was pleaded guilty on Monday he said he just wanted “to draw the attention to what the United States is doing in Afghanistan.” Maybe this question comes just into my head, but why should I believe it was really him who planned these attacks? Isn’t he just trying to protect someone more important or isn’t he just trying to draw the attention to himself? For people like them connection with Al-Qaeda could be an honor, protecting their activities by self-confession even bigger. Or maybe he is innocent and he made confession under the weight of pressu! re. Even though there is evidence, what Zazi’s father tr! ied to d estroy, for me there is still the same “what if?”.
