Syria & Another Nest of Terrorism? Maria Vasilova
They did it again! Bush's administration brought light into Syria's nuclear program affair. On Tuesday 22th, they convinced Congress that the suspects of White House about the cooperation between the actual two largest threats, Syria and North Korea , were nothing but right. Same danger, same US administration, same piece of evidence as in case of Iraq and Iran & commercial satellite photos of nuclear facility. In addition, the nuclear reactor claimed as "not intended for peaceful purposes" that was bombed by Israel seven months ago, was build with assistance of North Korea. On the other hand, there was no possibility for Syria to build nuclear weapons, because the alleged "factory" was in early stage of construction, with no evidence of nuclear material. In fact, Syria is taking part at the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons but has not yet signed the important IAEA Additional Protocol. Therefore, Syria is accused of posing a nuclear proliferation risk strictly observed by the US and Israel. In 2002, Iran, Iraq, Cuba, Libya and North Korea were labeled as parts of so called "axis of evil". President Bush accused these countries of helping terrorism and seeking weapons of mass destruction. Today, according to two still photographs, they have a new member, Syria. Unfortunately, the actual development is quite similar to the affair from 2003, when Iraq Survey Group was sent to Iraq in order to search for weapons of mass destruction and did not find any proof of biological, chemical or nuclear weapons production . The same scenario of taking and retaking pictures, intention to convince the world that Syria represents a global threat. Hope for Syria, it will not have the similar ending.
