Radovan Karadzic arrested

Radovan Karadzic, one of the world’s most wanted men, was on Monday the 21st arrested. He was 13 years on the run. His arrest is a significant event for the new pro-western government in Serbia. And who is Radovan Karadzic? He was born on June 19, 1945 in Petnjica. He is a former Serb politician, poet and psychiatrist. He was indicted for war crimes, crimes against humanity, crimes against life and health, genocide and the violation of the laws by the International Criminal Tribunal. In 1989 he co-founded the Serbian Democratic Party in Bosnia and Herzegovina and he was the first president of Serbia. Radovan Karadzic cooperated with Ratko Mladic – he is still on the run.
Sources said that he was under surveillance for several weeks, following a tip from a foreign intelligence service.
In the war during the years 1992-1995 Karadzic wanted to cleanse Bosnia from the nonserbian population. This led to the departure of the population. People who left in their country were deported or liquidated. More than million people left their houses. In 1995 Karadzic had to sign the Dayton accord which ended the war in Bosnia and in 1996 he had to leave the post of president. His arrest is extremely important for the victims who waited for this arrest many years. And as you can see sooner or later every fugitive will be brought to the justice. Richard Holbrooke said: “This is the most wanted man in Europe, the Osama bin Laden of Europe. He has evaded capture for almost 13 years.”
For some people Karadzic will remain hero, but most of them celebrate his arrest in the streets of Sarajevo. And what was the reaction of his wife Ljiljana? She said: ”At least now, we know he is alive”.
