Who Is Taking the First Step?
by Milota Sidorova
It does matter who makes the first step. Because it may show your power or weakness and the will to cooperate or the opposite attitude. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was visiting Washinghton last weekend. It was the first step after years lasting boycott of Bush international politics. Mr. Obama generating this more favorable atmosphere is a different man showing willingness to listen. Mubarak comes and speaks out. Except of Egyptian affairs those two men dig out at Israeli case. Without Israeli voice, however. Now comes the strange part of the game. Mubarak tells Obama what steps should be taken by Israel and guarantee that Arab nations want peace. All 22 members of Arab league are ready to help to bring Israel and Palestine to peace talks if Israel shows the will to take the first step. Oh, stupid pride! Now it comes to something really fundamental. Arab league is ready to accept Israel if it abandon Jerusalem and returns back to its pre 1967 borders – which means to freeze settlements on the West Bank and give up the place where Judaism was born. As a non-party visitor do you think this is possible? And if you were Jew would you give away the most sacred city to hatred neighbors? Now, let the highest men talking of peace on their own. One is for sure – they talk about case they are totally missing. Living in their richness and safety for years they show such low level of empathy. Nations living in this region hate each other for generations and be frank – nobody knows for sure when it started and who was the one to blame? Hate and fear are their daily bread. Something written in the Old Testament, written by Moses – An Eye for and Eye, a Tooth for a tooth. People who are living there are facing death every day. They believe if they success to kill enemies their soul will be saved. Their enemies are not human. They curved reality and religion to satisfy wounded animal within. Personally I emphasize and understand them. They are living life in conditions far away from any democratic political play. No democracy, no business. Only the blame of enemies has remained. Do you think it’s possible for one of them to take the first step? Because it will show not the power but the weakness in their eyes. And it won’t matter what these rich strangers will say about their “problem”.
