Warnings
by Claudia Sonea
Seasonal greetings are transformed in seasonal warnings. Fall is a season for harvest, for getting back to school, for pants and blouses, for umbrellas because it will definitely rain. Those of you who live at the seaside, you have bigger worries like preparing for hurricanes. There is Fred Hurricane that has formed in the southwest of Cape Verde islands, in the eastern Atlantic Ocean with intense winds that are expected to strengthen up to a Category 3 Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. Yet, the National Hurricane Center assured that it doesn’t represent a threat to land and that by Thursday it should weaken. From ! a tropical wave south-southeast of Cape Verde the Tropical Storm Erika formed on September 1 in the northeast of the Leeward Islands, but two days later it turned into a depression and then vanished. There is also the Tropical Storm Linda moving slowly over the Pacific in the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Up to this point there is no significant change in its strength, according to the NHC Advisory. In fact the hurricane season usually starts on June 1 and it will end on November 30, but during the fall the dangers increases as the hurricanes get stronger and more frequent. This year, the season started earlier with Tropical Depression One, followed by Tropical Storm Ana, Tropical Storm Claudette, Hurricane Bill, Tropical Storm Danny, then Tropical Storm Erika and Hurricane Fred. Fortunately enough this year the land remained untouched and let’s keep our fingers crossed for things to go on like this until the end. In any case, b! etter keep your basement full of towels, clothes, blankets and! provisi ons, if you happen to live on the coast.
