Prison in Italy
by kristina leskova
We live in a world full of crime and with people who are don´t care about other people. These people appear in newspapers or TV. But there is one case that happened earlier but it is still interesting for many people. It is the murder of Meredith Kercher which took place in Perugia, Italy. Meredith Kercher was a British girl who came to Italy due to exchange student program. She lived in a flat with three other students. On 2nd November she was discovered by the police. She was lying in her locked bedroom with slashed throat and evidence of sexual assault. Police arrested three suspects – Amanda Knox, who is an American student; Raffaele Solecito Italian student! who had been Knox´s boyfriend for two weeks; and Patrick Diya Lumumba, the supervisor of Amanda Knox in his restaurant. Amanda Knox is only 22 years old but was convicted by the Italian court. Nowadays she is in prison hoping that the court will admit that she has been wrongly convicted. She received 10-minute visit by two Italian lawmakers, prison officials and pair of reporters. At the end of the visit she recalled her emotions from December 5, when the judge read out the verdict. Her feelings were horrible as she said. Her ex-boyfriend Raffaele received a 25 years sentence but he is in another prison. Both say that they are innocent. But where is the truth? The court would not convict somebody if it was not sure that they are responsible for this horrible act. In this jail the inmates can wear their own clothes; they can read newspaper or even watch TV. But they have no internet connection. Once a week they can use the services of hairdresser. And they can even! play table tennis if they want.
