The Jeanne d'Arc's last trip
by Magdalena Rosova

The French navy training ship Jeanne d'Arc is setting out on its last mission. This mythical vessel which has trained all French naval officers since 1964 is after 45 years in navy service going to rest. Jeanne d'Arc was built in 1960s and is 182 meters long. It has seen some 6400 officers to receive training. Now after some five decades of diligent service and representing the France around the world a long earned rest is next on horizon for Jeanne. The Jeanne has reached the end of its life and will be dismantled soon. In some countries all that people know about France is the Jeanne, said Rear Admiral Hubert Durend de Gevigney. Back in 1960s the Jeanne's technology! was cutting edge, now it is hard for mechanics to fire the engines of the boat. Despite the problems, the ship is surely going to be missed. It is probably the last team ship in French navy, you can find many people in engine room. Modern ships are controlled by machines. Jeanne's principal Master Thierry Bernard knows he was the lucky one, he is thankful that he could travel around the world with Jeanne d'Arc. In 1960s everyone wanted to be on the Jeanne, she was a legend and she still is. She will continue to be legend until it will dock in France. On its last trip, 100 student are on board and they will spend six months practicing everything they learned in class. Cadets have been dreaming about Jeanne d'Arce ever since they were children and they realize it is a luck that they were selected for the last journey of Jeanne.
