French PM says time's up for Tehran, calls for strong sanctions
by Magdalena Rosova

French Prime Minister François Fillon accused Tehran of purposeful hesitation on a proposed uranium exchange deal. He further warned Tehran that France would ask the United Nations to take a new resolution against Iran over its nuclear program and impose even stronger sanctions on the country. According to Fillon the Iranian regime has not taken French offers of dialogue and therefore he thinks that it was the time to react. Fillon will lobby in the United Nations the adoption of a new resolution including strong sanctions and the European Union will also assume its responsibilities. The United Nations Security Council has already imposed on Iran three sets of s! anctions. The sanctions were imposed due to Iran's refusal to stop enriching uranium, which is a process that can produce fuel for nuclear reactors and also fissile material for an atomic bomb. Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Tehran might come to an agreement with world powers over its enrichment program. The president added that it was important for Iran to understand that international leaders were determined to make this matter the biggest priority, even if it meant to pay an economic or even military price. Fillon says there is still chance for dialogue, the West has not given up its efforts to engage Tehran in dialogue. But the time is running short. Fillon still believes that there is still chance and possibility to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capability through path of politics. The same story repeats all the time. French Prime Minister said similar words also a year ago when Tehran was given a clear deadline, but! it kept on delaying it. That time Fillon demanded strong sanc! tions as well.
