Is it still worth to fight?

Presence of American and French troops in Afghanistan is not to militants’ liking. The clear evidence is the number of dead soldiers which is constantly increasing. Another five soldiers were killed – four American and one French. According to NATO one American soldier was killed in fighting and another three succumbed to wounds suffered in a roadside bombing. Another roadside bomb attack caused also death of French soldier who was killed near the capital Kabul. His supply convoy was attacked on Wednesday by insurgents and his death made him the fortieth French soldier killed in Afghanistan. Two other French soldiers were wounded in the same attack fortunately i! t was not mortal for them. President Nicolas Sarkozy offered his condolences to the dead soldier’s family and said: “Today’s attack does not dampen France’s desire to pursue its mission in Afghanistan.” The question is if this attack and another attacks which will certainly follow, wouldn’t dampen the French people’s desire to intervene in Afghanistan’s development. As informed French news agency AFP since the war began in 2001 the total number of French soldiers killed in Afghanistan was 39. Now it is 40. With the US death toll for 2010 which represents 14 dead soldiers, I am asking isn’t it too much? Is it still worthy to fight, shouldn’t we let the Afghan people to get their house in order by themselves? At least 100,000 foreign military personnel are deployed in Afghanistan under NATO and US command. This number represents quantity of another potential targets for Afghan insurgents. Do we really want to risk un! necessary casualties?
