Where is the truth?
by Barbora Misakova

When you get to the situation that your words are opposed to police’s words, you have a real problem. Or maybe the Police will have a problem even though it is more likely it will be you who will owe the explanation. Anyway the fact is that in such case it will be in the newspapers and people will talk about it. There will be the same questions all over again, but different answers. France is going through such an incident. While 14-year-old student Anne says that police intervened for no reason, they have totally different view. According the information held by French Police, Anne and her two schoolmates were involved in a fight. The current French law enables place! d a child between 13 and 16 years of age in police custody for 24 hours if there is suspicion of committed infraction. So Anne was taken to the police station and held there (according to her account) for nine hours. French police claims all the rules concerning custody of minors were respected. But Anne remembers it differently. First of all she says she was not involved in the fight, she just tried to erupt it. She continues that when the police came to her house they refused her request for changing the clothes before leaving the house. She was forced to go to the police station in her pajamas where the police treated her harshly. Anne was all that time placed in handcuffs and had to undergo a medical examination. If the truth takes part with Anne or police an internal investigation will show, but Anne’s family is considering suing the police for using disproportionate means.
