Iran sanctions top concern at G-8 summit by Magdalena Rosova

Foreign ministers form the Group of Eight countries met in Canada and all of them agreed that Iran if Iran does not stop its nuclear enrichment activities, it should be sanctioned. But the ministers have different opinions about the penalties for Iran. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that there was an urgent need of coordinated action against the Iranian regime and added that Teheran had to halt its nuclear enrichment program and start a peaceful dialogue. The foreign ministers of eight most developed nations of the world, Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States, agreed on sanctions against Iran. But the ministers did n! ot agreed on the force of sanctions. United Nations has already imposed three different kind of sanctions on Iran for its refusal to halt the nuclear program. Ministers are afraid that Tehran is trying to develop a nuclear bomb, but Tehran denies such accusation. In case Iran developed and used nuclear weapon, the whole world would feel the catastrophe. Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, announced that China would join the talks over Iranian sanctions. China has been the most indecisive member of UN Security Council. Clinton told that China will play important role in imposing new sanctions against Iran. French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner hoped that there was still chance to negotiate with Iran, but Japanese Foreign Minister Okada Katsuya believes that time was running out. Katsuya further said that UN Security Council decision needed support of Russia and China, otherwise it would not be effective.
