Mexican elections smelled violence by Milota Sidorova

People of Mexico went to the elections on Sunday, choosing mayors and governors of one third of the country on Sunday. But Mexican as well as foreign media reported increasing violence and intimidation during polls. People as well as candidates were threatened, eventually killed. This happened for instance in case of the PRI opposition front-runner candidate for governor Rodolfo Torre who had been killed with his four aides as they went to a campaign event. The murder was labeled political. It probably shows but a glimpse of what was going on in some regions.Mexico is about to redistribute political powers after ten years of ruling National Action Party. These elections may! be the first serious test for President Felipe Calderon from PAN as well. He was the clear man to blame for increasing violence, drug smuggling, murders and low economic.According some observers the corruption increased past few years and some mayors and governors were spoken to be washing hands to drug smugglers. Although Calderon launched campaign for splitting drug mafia, 26,000 people paid the price. That is the number of deads past three and half years in the drug chase. Most of them were traffickers or police officers, but there was a great amount of civilians. Drug cartels fight hard for their routes north, to the U.S. that actually means daily killing in border regions. Sad is the statistic in Ciudad Juarez, the city across from El Paso, Texas, where 10 people a day in average were killed in June.The country has been destabilized by unemployment, corruption and drug smuggling. The political scene as well as economy profile on markets are vulnerable, waiting for re! sults from the rest of the country.
