One of 30 thousand misfortunate stories was solved! by Barbora Misakova

Imagine your brother mysteriously disappears overnight. All your attempts to find him are failing. Neither Embassy, nor international organizations, humanitarian or religious groups can help you. You are desperate and so you start intense media campaign, but you get no answers. Your hopelessness and fear are replaced by anger and sadness. But your restlessness stays with you for many years. After more than 30 years new information comes to you: body of your brother was found! A Frenchman Yves Marie Alain Domergue, as sounds his full name, was 22 years old, when he was kidnapped. Yves, together with his girlfriend Cristina Cialceta, also called “La Mexicana”, wer! e shot and thrown on the side of the provincial road. Two days later, when they were found on Sunday September 26th their bodies were immediately buried in the unmarked graves and no one ever heard of them. The couple which was killed in 1976, at the start of the Argentine military dictatorship, had to wait many years till their disappearances and deaths were revealed and it took almost 34 years till their remains were identified. When Argentine teacher Juliana Cagrandi urged detective work and in 2003 also involved students from the local high school class where she was giving lessons, no one even thought it would lead to solving this case. As the students together with their teacher doggedly pursued the case until the regional human rights secretariat opened its own official probe, Yves’ family should first of all thank to them as they helped not only to identify their remains but also partly reconstructed their misfortunate story.
