China working to prevent epidemics in disaster zone
by Radka Konkolova

Approximately three weeks after the menacing and consumptive earthquake, China is on the way of adjusting and getting the situation there better. There are still many soldiers and troops in this area searching for survivals. Those ones, who were trying to divert from the river and new-made lake, have already finished their mission with success. Although, about 200,000 people were evacuated from the zone of downstream, just in the case of possible floods and the case when soldiers wouldn't be successful in water regulation. But there happened another bad luck, again. The Russian military helicopter fell down with the aircrew of five people and another 14 injured people. They had wanted to get from the stricken area to the hospital, but they got into the dense fog and turbulence and then it crashed near the town of Wenchuan, what meant a death for all the people aboard, probably. So now the soldiers have gotten another important task. They have to find the wreck with victims. Government is still trying to help people by assuring and providing additional tents or other shelters in special camps. Most of towns and villages of this area of China are still empty and without people, except towns where policemen are on patrol, because there are many possibilities and opportunities for acquisitive thieves, who probably haven't got conscience. Besides them, there have been purification units which have sprayed disinfectant in the streets to avoid spreading infection or breakout some epidemic. Besides five million homeless people, temporary living in tents, there are still about 19,000 people missing and the rest of them, what is 69,019 people, are unfortunately dead. Most of these dead bodies were cremated and minor part of them has been buried somewhere far away from the water source and generally far away from water. There are still many volunteers from the Red Cross as well. They help to ensure the fresh drinking water and safe meal for the people living in camps. Also government starts with planning the reconstruction of stricken area, especially of the houses and buildings, and with planning the budget which will be needed for it. They want to help quake victims with building and rebuilding their homes, schools, offices, etc. And they also want people to be prepared to coming rainy season. So step by step it starts to seem like China will recover in the close future. I think almost everybody, especially Chinese and people from surrounding countries hopes so. Otherwise, according to the reports, there were no Americans in the stricken zone. But bureaus and embassy still warn people and tourists against coming to this region these days.
