US hacked by China
by Silvia Szarkova

Congressional computers have been hacked by unidentified people working from inside China ! This accusation came out on Wednesday by lawmakers. It seems like Chinese are striving for the list of dissidents, said lawmakers warning the Capitol. According to two mostly hacked congressmen, exposed computers contained information and further details about political dissidents from around the world. What is interesting, both congressmen in the past did not save with the critics targeted to China treating of human rights and its attitude to democracy. Virginia Republican Frank Wolf stated that four of computers in his office were attacked beginning in 2006. Chris Smith, Republican for New Jersey and a senior Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee claimed his computers were endangered twice- in December 2006, and then in March 2007. But the list is not over. The spokes woman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Lynne Weil said that approximately at the same period, the Committee was also hacked at least once. All these revelation came out after investigating provided by US authorities. Chinese officer are now under the suspicion- they probably copied the information from government laptop computer while Carlos Gutierrezz – Commerce Secretary- was visiting China and used it to hack into all Commerce Department Computers. FBI said to Wolf that also the computers of other House members has been attacked by foreign sources working from inside China. Smith supposes that the Senate computer could have been possibly hacked as well and according to Pentagon´s last month report the its multiple computer network is scanned or hacked more than 300 million times each day. But why does China want to expose the US computers ? In Beijing, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not comment the allegation by lawmakers. Wolf says that still the biggest problem remains that no one wants to talk about this issue. As a response to these incidents, Smith has introduced the Global Online Freedom act to prohibit all US Internet companies from collaboration with countries such as China, because of the restriction pushed by Chinese government to people´s freedom and democracy to the Internet.
