Chris Cantell Discusses World News: Next $21 billion promised to Afghanistan
by Ivana Macakova
Donors promised more than $21 billion for Afghanistan, because now they want to spend better in this poor country. As statistics said money aid didn`t utilize for those aims for which it was set. Now in Afghanistan there is still a lack of sanitation, about 80% of homes don`t have a electricity, expected life age is about 50 years, prices are rising. Reasons of the situation when money don`t fulfill their aim are mainly corruption and also trade with drugs. So now the donors insist a better coordination and involvement of Afghan`s President Hamid Karzai`s administration.French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner pronounced they wanted to leave Afghanistan as soon as possible, but he also knew that it would take a very long time there would a peace. This statement is evidenced in remains fights with Taliban`s fighters. The reason why donors promised other money for Afghanistan could also be the fact that Afghanistan is the strategic crossroad of the fights against global terrorism and the pledge of $10.2 billion from USA is not enough.Even the donors involved better spending of aid money, they know there is not easy to make sure how the funds are used. The security question is analyzing in every aid project. To make the money aid more transparent, the donors draw up the plan to conduct audits of Afghan government programs. Also inspectors will be sent to monitor the using money which USA afford to farmers to buy seed, fertilizer and not growing opium poppies.Everybody agreed that every project must have the stroke for a long time on everyday lives of Afghans.
