Iran is testing its missiles
by Petra Kamenicka
On Wednesday, Iran test-fired nine missiles. Among them were some missiles capable to target Israel. Iran was attempting to demonstrate its readiness to strike back in case of endangerment form United States or Israel. Of course, this step caused a strong criticism form U.S and even rise of oil prices. Testing of missiles was not the reason of fear, because Iran have tested some similar missiles previously, so this was not surprising. The main reason of worries is the time and location of testing. Iran as long ago warned, that it would strike back for any attack against it. And this action on Wednesday should serve as a proof. This conflict has sharpened, when in June Israel's military sent warplanes over the eastern Mediterranean. In addition,U.S, officials described this massive military exercise as a possible rehearsal for a possible strike on Iran's nuclear program.
Iran has made this testing in order to : ,,demonstrate our resolve and might against enemies who in recent weeks have threatened Iran with harsh language,” said Gen. Hossein Salami, the Revolutionary Guards air force commander. He adds : ,,Hundreds and maybe thousands of missiles are ready to be fired at specified targets.”
Reaction from U.S. was quick. The U.S. Defense Department was studying the whole test, in order to determine what was launched. Now, they are trying to find out, what this test shows about Iran's missile capabilities. Secretary of U.S, Condoleezza rice announced, that test practiced on Wednesday was ,,evidence that the missile threat is not an imaginary one.” Rice adds: ,,Those, who say that there is no Iranian missile threat against which we should build a missile defense system perhaps ought to talk to the Iranians about their claims.” An significant advance in building defending system against missiles has been achieved on Tuesday, when Rice and her Czech counterpart, Karel Schwarzenberg signed a deal that allows the United States to base a missile defense shield in Czech Republic.
