Tsunami in Samoa
by kristina leskova
We are living too quickly. And then it is not possible to catch all the things that we would like to. Sometimes the power of nature is stronger than mankind. And in just few seconds we have to talk and write about disaster. It makes no difference if there was an earthquake, fire, flood, tsunami, some storm or other. All of them come very quickly and cause death of people or catastrophic damages. The nature is stronger than a man and we can not shelter from it. We live in such a material world and we do not care of nature. I think that all these disasters are some kind of revenge from nature. If we do not take care of nature, it will not take care of us. On Wednesday there ! was a huge earthquake in Samoa. And there was not only earthquake, it continued with tsunami which killed many people. Last reports say that there are more than one hundred victims. And between the victims are at least three children. The Western Samoa is autonomous state and awaits the help from Australia and New Zealand. The wave came 800 meters into the inland on the Western Samoa. We can not say how many people were killed. Because many of the people could the waves flush into the sea. The waves were about four meters high and they damaged many settlements. The officials reported a powerful 8,0 magnitude earthquake. Many of the citizens were warned against the earthquake and lot of them left the coast. The epicenter of the earthquake was 18 km under the sea bottom and about 195 km from the main city of Samoa.
