Conference in Denmark
by kristina leskova
Today is the last day of the Climate change Conference in Copenhagen. It is a worldwide known event happening this week. The Conference started on 7th December and should finish on 18th December. Denmark is the host state where many country representatives came. All of them want to make common decision and accept a plan how to decrease the climate changes. Because as we know our Earth is changing really quickly. There are countries known as biggest polluters and it is needed to be more active if we want to save our environment. This conference is a big event and it attracted many visitors. Many activist and protesters came in front of the Bella Center where the Conference ! took place and they tried to get inside. Police officers were prepared but they had to use tear gas, batons and they detained many of the protesters. Many protestors were angry about the police behavior which they considered as “heavy-handed” tactics. Almost 1000 protesters were arrested but most of them were released without any charge. These people came here to make pressure on the country representatives. They protested and were not satisfied with the activity of several countries. A little surprise was that Denmark´s climate minister Connie Hedegaard stepped aside as president of the conference and gave the word to Rasmussen as head of the host country. Hedegaard will assist to Rasmussen and it is not clear if this switch was only pro forma or she was forced to this step. But the most important thing is what will be the results of this conference. Whether this conference was useful or it is just another useless spending of money.
