France to pay Taiwan for bad military deal by Zivka Deleva

France is going to lighten its cash box for 830 million dollars in favor of Taiwan, due to the defence electronics group Thales that sold the island country warships almost 20 years ago. The biggest problem is that the company Thales, then Thomson-CSF, had paid unauthorized commissions to make it a winner and win the deal. We are talking about six navy Lafayette frigates that were sold without the permission the commissions to give space to other intermediaries. Thales refuses to pay the share, which is about 27 percent or 230 million euros. The rest of the percentage belongs to the state of France. French politicians don't want to comment anything, including the French min! istry of defence. Who thought to open up this question after over twenty years? A Taiwanese navy captain Yin Ching-Feng provoked an investigation, after his suspicious death. He was found floating off the coast of Taiwan two years after the deal. The decision was brought by Chamber of Commerce's International Court of Arbitration. "Thales has been ordered to pay damages and interest" – said the companies officials. The Taiwanese authorities complained the first time about the anti-corruption clauses. It is still not completely clear who profited the most in this great defeat, but one thing is for sure, the French people are going to pay for it for certainly. It is always like that, political and military elites create the problems, and then, people pay. Those smart guys that came up with the idea to do such a stupid thing and believed that they are never going to be caught up, were stupid enough not to read the contract that forbade any kind of payment for the c! ommissions and that every possible problem that might occur wi! ll be pu nished by the panel of judges. One big applause for the wise men!
