Israli-Palestinian talks by Claudia Sonea

A conflict that started as a religious dispute has developed into a serious conflagration between two nations. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates as back as the late 19th century and hopefully will soon come to an end as both parties seem opened to a solution. After having accustomed the world with its intrusions into other countries’ affairs, US did not disappoint us this time either. The United States of America is brokering the talks between Israel and Palestine and it seemed to have some success as in March the reluctant Palestinians agreed to indirect talks. However, the announcement that Israel is planning to build 1,600 new settler ! homes on the occupied Palestinian territories outraged the Arab League and spurred away the hope for peace. Will the talks lead to a final solution which will satisfy both parties? Another futile attempt to please both nations took place in 1993 through the Oslo Accords, when the Israeli officials and Palestinian leaders agreed to make peace if Israel gives control of the Palestinian territories over to the Palestinians. Since then multiple talks have been facilitated, yet none ended with an agreement as both parties hold a firm position on what they want. In 2007 the residents of both nations expressed a strong desire to come to peace by creating an independent Palestinian state alongside an independent Israeli state. The idea might be coming into reality as this week the indirect talks between the two parties will begin. Hopefully, the leaders will put aside their personal interest and desires and think about the good of the people. Violen! ce must end and people should stop losing their lives over a h! and of l and.
