North Korea´s leader Kim Jong Il visits China by Zuzana Zelenakova

Reportedly, North Korean leader Kim Jong Il arrived in China early Monday in a special armored train. 17-carriage train arrived in Dandong around five o´clock, it was a rare sight because usually trains that come across the border are four or five carriages long and arrive in the afternoon. Kim Jong Il was expected to visit China in April, but it did not work out. Current visit is taking place in times of growing tensions between North and South Korea, US ally. Democratic People´s Republic of Korea and the United States do not have formal diplomatic relations, the dissent between the two countries is mainly over the North Korea´s uranium enrichment programme! and nuclear tests. There are growing worries that North Korea may be preparing for a third nuclear test. It is also suspected of being behind the sinking of the South Korean warship that took place at the end of March. The aim of Kim Jon Il´s visit to China, the most significant ally, is most likely to ask for economic help. "Kim will likely express his commitment to returning to six-party talks while leaving a date for the return up to host China," said Yang Moo-Jin of Seoul's University of North Korean Studies. "In return, Kim will receive economic aid from China." It is his first visit to China since 2006 and it has not been officially confirmed by neither the Chinese nor the North Korean government. Based on the past visits, it won´t be confirmed until it is over. The experts are watching out whether Kim Jong Il brought along also his son and potential heir Kim Jong Eun or not. In case he did, there would be a lot of talk about his preparing to transfer th! e power. South Korean media informed last year that Kim Jong I! l suffer s from pancreatic cancer.
