Heaven is celebrating the joining of an angel, but Earth is mourning the loss of a role model to humanity. Irena Sendler just passed into eternity at the age of 98, leaving behind her bravery for everyone to remember. In a time when Germans rattled their neighbors in order to receive their houses and fortunes, she was above all and even endangered her life to save thousands of Jewish children from the Holocaust that took place during World War Two. She was a great source of inspiration for everyone, considering her act of bravery and her heroism as something normal, but for many it wasn’t. In her last interview she confessed the term hero irritates her, yet it is a tag she will forever bear. Using her social worker job she managed to smuggle 2500 children out of the Warsaw Ghetto and placed them in Polish families. The Ghetto was a Nazi creation meant to isolate the half a million Jewish residing the city. Not even after the Nazi caught her and tortured her, she did not give up and only due to Zegota organization’s intervention she escaped execution. Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust memorial authority, underlined the importance of her actions that preserve aspiration to a better world to human goodness and self sacrifice. Lech Walesa, former Polish President, and other important people also expressed their sympathy and sorrow regarding such a loss. Irena Sendler left the Earth, but history will eternize her traces and what she did shall never be forgotten. Her obituary would show nothing else than an extraordinary woman. May God rest her soul.
