Georgia vs Russia
by Claudia Sonea
All predictions of Nostradamus are taking shape in the recent events. Natural calamities like floods, hurricanes, and wild fires are taking place and there are countries fighting with plagues or the lack of food. Even the prediction of a war started by a small country has been fulfilled. On August 8, 2008, Goergia started a war with Russia by attacking South Ossetia. The violence continues and none of the two parts involved are willing to get to an agreement.
Russia’s response is like a chain around Georgia’s neck, closing in at a slow pace, but firm. Both in land and on air the Russian troops are fighting and winning the outnumbered and unequipped Georgian troops. According to recent statements the troops marched forward than the two provinces creating the conflict and the truth seems to remain subjective because the Georgian President Saakashvili says they got all the way to Gori, while the Russian Defense Ministry denies it. At the emergency Security Council organized by the U.N., officials B. Lynn Pascoe and Edmond Mulet confirmed the variant of Mikhail Saakashvili.
Something is wrong because even the Russian officials are presenting confusing facts like that of leaving Senaki after eliminating the danger after they just denied going beyond South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Also some AP reporters say that people left Gori due to warnings that the Russian troops are approaching, but the troops did not actually get there. They added that in spite of the fact that Saakashvili signed a cease-fire pledge with European mediators, Georgian troops were seen opening fire upon the enemy.
Russia is indifferent to the West criticism and opposition and justifies it with the desire to protect its citizens. President Bush pressed Moscow without any result, France called to cease fire and so did the Pope, but Russian position is unchanged and they stubborn refuse to subdue. They may very well be entitled to do so because South Ossetia and Abkhazia were striving to break from Georgia and approaching the former Soviet Union. However, the ones starting the war were the Georgian people backed by the US ally. Meanwhile hundreds of people are suffering because of political interests and they lost their loved ones, their homes everything. Who cares about them?
