The war is not coming to an end
by Claudia Sonea

Certainly the war between Russia and Georgia is one desired by politicians, rather by the people, because lives are being wasted and the politicians quarrel like two old maids. Russia is the more silent adversary as the West launched a wave of criticism, while Georgia backed by US is creating a lot of noise. Up to now there was only one attempt in putting an end to hostilities and that was mediated by the French. Yet, two days after accepting the cease fire, the violence continues.
Let us shed some light on the matter, the war was started by Georgia two weeks ago when they literally tried by force to get back the two provinces South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Russia’s response was accordingly and the problem was not that it had managed to get the two provinces, but that it also moved outside them towards Gori and closer to the capital, Tbilisi. The foreign minister of Russia underlined that Georgia’s integrity is questionable and they will certainly not give back the two provinces. Meantime the conflict continues and the Russian tanks are moving forward.
US continue to support Georgia and although they sniffed at the statement made by the Russian foreign Minister, they said the military aid has not come into discussion so far. They are trying the diplomatic solving of the conflict and that is Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would have gone to Georgia on Friday. The US government also sent relief planes with supplies for the 100000 people that are refugee in Tbilisi. According to the Pentagon there was no major movement by Russia troops or tanks in spite of the fact that Georgian officials said column of tanks and other armored vehicles were heading toward Kutaisi, the second-largest city in Georgia.
To all accusations of using short-range missiles in Poti and Gori, keeping military force in Poti, Russia refused to respond. The only response came about the incident in Gori where it was a confrontation between the troops and denied of having the moved outside the two provinces with the intention to conquer, but rather to find weapons abandoned by Georgian troops.
