Shell Lost Almost 14000 tons of oil in Nigeria

Attacks and vandalism at pipelines of Royal Dutch Shell PLC in Nigeria caused serious loses. Over last year vandals caused the company to lose nearly 14,00 tons of crude oil in Niger Delta. According to the company the amount of wasted crude oil has significantly increased over last year. The company blames the majority of the spills on two incidents. One when thieves damaged a wellhead at Odidi field and the second one when militants planted a bomb which exploded at the Trans Escravos pipeline. The Shell company annually releases its environmental report. This year Shell released the report on Tuesday and in the report it announced the losses. Ever since 2006 milita! nts in the Niger Delta are have attacked Shell's pipelines, kidnapped employees of petroleum company and fought government troops. Moreover, a fire struck on one of Shell's main crude pipelines running through Nigeria delta also cut the production. Shell is now investigation what or who caused the fire on its Trans Niger pipeline. The pipeline runs through 20,000 square miles of the eastern part of the Niger Delta Shell's subsidiary in Nigeria are regularly being attacked by militants. Chief executive officer of the company even said that in spite of Shell's 50-year history in the country, Nigeria is not a profit-maker for the company any more. Disruptions in the production of oil have naturally affected global oil prices. In February, Nigeria was the No. 4 oil exporter to the U.S. Every day 896,000 million barrels of crude were sent to the U.S. from Nigeria, which is even more than from Saudi Arabia.
