10 Mexican Police Killed in Attack by Magdalena Rosova

In Mexico's state of Michoacan, gunman connected with drug gangs killed 10 policemen at least. It is years that Mexico is fighting with the narcotics trade. Gunman blocked a highway with a truck and then opened fire on a federal police convoy. Michoacan state Public Security Minister Minerva Bautista said 10 policemen were killed and several were wounded. Mexico's federal government said the number of killed assailants is still unknown. Michoacan became a key battleground of drug cartels. The biggest La Familia cartel fights the others gangs there and security forces tries to take control over the state. Mexican President Felipe Calderon launched his fight against dug traff! ickers in 2006 and has also support of United States. Since 2006 at least 23,000 people, both traffickers and police, were killed in drug violence. Similar incident happened in another state Sinaloa where 28 prisoners were killed in the fight between two gangs inside the prison. Three prison guards were injured in the incident. Sinaloa is a home base of famous drug lord Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman. The prisoners killed in the incident were in jail because of murder or drug trafficking. Josefina Garcia the head of state police said the prisoners had used sledgehammer to break through several doors. It was the worst riot this jail has ever seen. The growing violence effected tourism in Mexico. The US is also worried and it tries to help with supporting the fight against the drug trafficking in Mexico. The United States gives millions of dollars in equipment and training of Mexican army and police.
