Huge political changes in Belgium
by Zivka Deleva
Belgium is in front of a new history. On Sunday the Flemish separatists took over the government of the country in the general elections. Now the question stays open, who with will the New Flemish Alliance create a coalition with? The leader of the party, 39-years old Bart de Wever advised people not to be afraid and to have faith in themselves. This party's motto was "Long live a free Flanders". With it, they won 29.5 percent of the votes. It is not weird if soon Belgium is going to be confronted with the issue of the Filaments independence, something that these people long for a long time. De Wever is not radical in his attitude, at least that's how it sounds these days! . He calls for the Flemish nationalists to be more open minded and to shake hands with the Francophones, because the state must be well united and changed. Unlike Flemish party's success, the other former leading parties have only scored 12.5 percent and De Decker's party - only 3.7 percent. For a peace in the house, De Wever is also ready to let Francophones to get the place of the Prime Minister, the position that he finds it is not so important, but if that brings peacefulness in the "neighborhood", he would consider it as a good option. The biggest chances for that place is Elio di Rupo, the leader of the Walloon Socialist party. Di Rupo, who is a proclaimed homosexual, said that as far as the people have voted that way, they are looking for a change. The experts say that the new government must be focused on the financial question as well, not only the constitutional issues.
