Suicide bomb attack in Baghdad: 59 people were killed and many others were injured, that is the statistic from one Baghdad’s Tuesday. Muslim holy month of Ramadan has started, violence is growing stronger, and this all is somehow beyond me. According to official sources the attack was the deadliest of this year. After July, which was the deadliest month in Iraq since 2008, when a series of coordinated blasts in the capital killed 127 people, it is like a competition has begun. Two hundred people already killed in August “help” it slowly to overrun 535 July’s victims. I don’t know who is responsible for monitoring these numbers and moving them f! orward, but the truth is that so many cases of suicide bomb attacks in Iraq had already made us insensitive. People in Iraq are dying like flies, so quickly, so violently. Who would care who were they or where they belong? I know that sarcasm is inappropriate in this situation and doesn’t help it at all, but what kind of reaction would you expect? There was one single man, a suicide bomber, who simply got into the area of crowded recruitment centre and blew himself up. Just like that! No one saw him before, no one ever noticed anything suspicious. After the attack there were “people lying on the ground, some of them were on fire. Others were running with blood pouring out.” And even though I realize this is not a picture that only 19-year-old Ahmed Kadhim should see, he already did. And these are the news we have to read again and again. And these are the information which makes us again a bit more careless.
