China evacuates villagers after new flood threat
by Radka Konkolova

The troubles with the earthquake in China are still proceeding. But now it is not about the earthquake, which struck China two weeks ago, but it is more about the aftershocks caused by these trembles. The main problem and threat of these days are possible floods, because thanks quakes there were formed new lakes in some parts and even some dams were damaged, so now there are many breach what is very dangerous for the people living in these areas. This is the reason why the government orders immediate evacuation of these villages, to keep people safe. Because, I think that everybody knows, that there have been a large number of victims. There are still many rescuers, soldiers and volunteers in stricken areas. Now troops rush to carve a trench to drain the water before it floods the valley. Because of evacuation all possibly endangered villages were emptied and people are tenting in the tents pitched on the hillside overlooking the river below it. But when the surface of this river swells above the walls or when the dam crushes, they will have to move uphills to be safe. Otherwise, also this camp is very overcrowded There live about 12 – 15 people in each of 40 tents, what is a great amount in my opinion. Troops use explosives to blow up all the stumps of the trees which have obstructed the road for heavy-duty excavator, which was carried there by means of the airlift. Other soldiers are damaging the rest of teetering houses and buildings in emptied villages, what is sign that the government finished looking for another survivors or dead bodies. But there are still more than 20,000 people lost, what is enough to continue seeking them, but... The official amount of dead people range about 68,000. There were formed approximately 35 new lakes after the quake, made thanks the rubble and sliding soil which dammed rivers and brooks. Some of them have already swallowed few villages, but only one of them represents the risk to cause another disaster. It is Tangjiashan lake which are the most dangerous and which the troops want to get under the control. As Xinhua reported, there are more than 34 billion gallons in this lake and the surface was rising about 3 feet every 24 hours and according to the forecast it is probably foretaste of the summer rainy season, which is coming soon. Yesterday, there were noted much more stomach diseases and fever than in the whole last two weeks. Even though the number of them is in higher than normal rates, physicians have said, that it is still not as dangerous, because there is no case of tuberculosis, hepatitis or diarhoea yet, this means no outbreak of any epidemic. But people are weakened physically and also psychically, so it will be very difficult for some of them, especially for those who have got no more energy.
