Mother Nature is sometimes getting back on her ungrateful children for exploiting avidly all her resources, for polluting the environment, for taking for granted the beautiful things that God created. In the last couple of years, there was only news related to earthquakes, volcanoes’ activity intensifying, tsunami, hurricanes, natural hazards that should make people question about the impact of man on the environment. The latest hit by Mother Nature was Indonesia's northwest island of Sumatra. A 7.2 -magnitude earthquake struck on Sunday morning the Indonesian province of Aceh. The good news is that there were no! reports of damage or casualties, while the bad news is that it is still too soon to breathe relieved. Most of the locals were scared about the effects of the quake like the possibility of a tsunami. In 2004 the exact same region was hit by an earthquake followed by a deadly tsunami that registered168000 casualties. Therefore, there were concerns that now the situation might actually repeat itself. The Indonesian government assured that there is no danger for a tsunami to happen again, thus it is safe for people to return to their homes. Taking into consideration that Indonesia is situated above the meeting of the continental plates; the news about an earthquake hitting the region should not come as a surprise. However, the intense movements and the frequent quakes must be seriously regarded as they are partially generated by man’s need to hamper with the natural balance of our planet.
