Sarkozy: Africa deserves permanent seats at the Security Council
by Zivka Deleva

France and Africa made a new big step. Organizing the two day summit in Nice Riviera seemed to be something important do be done, because that’s what almost each African country needs, to get back together in the business and political concern of France. As I wrote few days ago, France cannot find anywhere the natural wealth that Africa has and still needs it. If you think that this European big power has used everything that Africa offers a century ago when colonized a lot of African countries, no , you are wrong, because the mother Nature is regenerating over and over again. French President Nicolas Sarkozy who invited 38 African leaders said that he is going to t! ry to convince the United Nations that it is about time for the Africa to gain a permanent seat at the Security Council. He also thinks that the black continent must have its voice at the Group of 20 club of rich economies. "How can we accept a world where 25 percent of the population lives in Africa and yet it does not have a permanent seat at the Security Council? This is an anomaly, an injustice and a source of imbalance," said the president. He believes that that would be possible in the next year when France is going to take over the helm of the G20. Sarkozy believes that two African countries could have permanent seats and veto power with 10-year mandates. Well, it is normal for a French politician to be so into the need to help Africa. Still, when there are state interests, the Gods as well keep it silent. Let’s wait and see what will happen with this French-African collaboration.
