Tourists trap by Claudia Sonea

Think twice before choosing where to spend your holiday because you might just put your life in danger without even know it! Just think about the dozens of tourist that are trapped in the Bolivian city of Potosi; instead of enjoying their summer break, they are now fearing for their own safety as they have no way out of the city. Unhappy about the region’s economy, the poor level of life, over 6000 people rose to claim their rights. They blocked all the ways in and out the city thus trapping thousands of tourists, especially French. Among their demands in exchange of giving up the siege over th! e city are: a bigger regional investment, to build a new factory and extend the current airport. Although up to 100 tourists are being held by force due to the road blocks in the city of Potosi, the government did not respond to the protestors’ demands, nor did they start the negotiations. The French consulate is constantly in contact with the tourists and the recommendation is for them to stay in their hotels until the situation is calmed down. Those who followed the advice were able to escape on Wednesday due to the demonstrators’ curtsey. According to the witness reports, there is complete anarchy in the region with explosion and clashes with the police. The relief is that most of the tourists were able to return home. What about the other and how will they get back to their homes? Don’t forget to pay great importance to the political climate of a country before choosin! g it as a travel destination. Besides Bolivia, Greece should a! lso be a voided.
