by Zuzana Zelenakova

100 people were killed in Baghdad, Iraq either in bomb attacks or gunfire. Monday will be remembered as perhaps the deadliest day this year in a country that has been torn by war for so long. Terrorist organization al-Qaida was accused of being responsible for the attacks immediately with the country´s officials claiming that it simply wants to prove its power in times it suffered some defeats in battlefield. According to the reports, about 300 people were injured. "The terrorist gangs perpetrated new assaults today on our people and armed forces," said Vice President Adel Abdul-Mahdi. "We call on all political blocs to work seriously for the benefit of the country an! d ... start to form a national partnership government including all political parties without marginalizing any one." The violence of May 10 began with attackers shooting at army and police officers, then two cars exploded in front of the entrance to the textile factory in Hillah. Workers were leaving for home at the time. Later, suicide bomber caused the third explosion, just as emergency service was coming to take care of the wounded from the previous explosion. "I saw dead people, some burned and crying, wounded people on the ground that was covered with pools of blood. Dozens of wounded people asking for help were lying on the ground," said eye-witness Jassim Znad Abid. The bombings and shootings hit also at least 10 other cities and towns. Al-Qaida exploited the unstable situation following parliamentary election held on 7 March 2010. Even two months after the elections, which had no clear winner, new government has not been formed. Vice President Adel Abdul-Mahdi emp! hasized that forming a new government as soon as possible is c! rucial. Major political groups in the country are still struggling to establish coalition.
