Japan's Prime Minister Quits by Claudia Sonea

Politicians strive very hard to gain the ultimate power and get at the country’s steering wheel. However, it seems that in Japan, politicians have made a tradition from quitting Japan's Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama realized that he did not possess the required qualities of a good leader. The fact that he admitted publicly that he was wrong doesn’t make him unique, but by quitting, he will definitely be remembered. His actions can be taken into consideration from many points of view. Some will say it was cowardice that he resigned, thus fleeing before the storm. From the powerful, b! old and determined leader that Hatoyama embodied last year during the elections, he turned into an indecisive man, too weak and too scared to confront the despicable US government that insisted in keeping an American base in Okinawa. Although he lost people’s approval because he did not keep the promises made during the elections, Hatoyama should have hold in strong and try to regain the voter’s sympathy. He should have proven to be better than the other three prime ministers that resigned before him. Others will say it was brave of him to step aside and let the charge to someone who can bring the country’s long forgotten glory. His party, the Democrats, was the first to put pressure on quitting before the elections that will take place in July in order to not jeopardize the party. However, his resignation is not going to make the party’s failure to disappear, there are economic issues that they cannot handle a! nd the lack of firm measures.
